Instructor Bios - We have eleven full time and part time instructors that have experience at the high school and collegiate levels, Most instructors have professional playing experience. Our instructors are available to teach and coach players in little league through the collegiate level.

Mark Machalec Has owned and operated Texas Baseball Academy since 1991. Mark is from Houston, played high school at Hastings and collegiate baseball at Rice University. Drafted by and played in the Seattle Mariners organization for four years. Coached at St. Pius High School where his team won back to back state championships in 1987 and 1988. Returned to Rice as an asistant coach in 1988 and 1989. Mark coached the 1996 TBA 14 and under AABC World Series Champions. |

David Moss
Co-owner of Texas Baseball Academy since 2000. Coached at Rice University and was a member of the athletic staff for 11 years. Also coached at Bowling Green State University (1983-84), The College of Wooster (1985-86) and Indiana University (1987-88). Originally from Indiana, moved to Houston in 1989 to coach at Rice and serve as an academic counselor for the athletic department.

Jon Choate
Played at North Shore HS and Blinn JC then was drafted by the Cleveland Indians. After finishing his playing career went on to coach at the collegiate level for 5 years (SWTS and Blinn JC). Joined TBA in 2002.

Ronnie Thames
Played for Humble HS, San Jac JC and Sam Houston State, where he played both football and baseball. Upon completing his degree he began his college coaching career at Grayson JC where they won 2 National Championships. Has been a full-time instructor with TBA since 2000.

James Madrid
Played HS for Midland and played his college career at Rice University. Was All-SWC pitcher in 1993 before arm problems cut his career short. Graduated in 1996 from Rice and joined TBA full-time in 2005.

Mike Grace
Graduate of Sharpstown HS and played at Rice University, graduating in 1989. Signed pro contract with the Montreal Expos and played with the Chicago Cubs for 5 years. Currently a part-time instructor with TBA. Has been on staff since 2002.

Marc Coles
Graduate of Bellaire HS and played at both Blinn JC and Texas State University. Member of the 1999 High School State championship team. In college was selected as all Region at Blinn and All SLC while attending Texas State. Graduate of Texas State in 2004. |

Steven Beck
Played at Kerrville Tivy HS, Vernon JC, and Schreiner Universtiy. In 2002, played independent baseball in the Frontier, Northern, and Central Leagues. While finishing my degree, I was the student assistant for Schreiner University. After I quit playing, I took the assistant baseball coaching job with Schreiner University and then that summer coached the 18 year old Austin Slam Baseball Organization. |

Karl Walker
In 1989, graduated from Marshall High School. Earned a four year scholarship in baseball from Grambling State University and received a BA degree in Political Science. Defensive Player of the Year and GTE Scholastic All Region Team for academic excellence. Worked with the Rice University Baseball Camps given by Coach Wayne Graham and has been associated with the TBA for 5 years.

Anthony Scalise
Played HS baseball at Pasadena Dobie and played collegiate ball at UH. Was a two year starter in the outfield and after graduation coached for his alma matter. Is a certified teacher for special education and has been with TBA since 2004.
